Transfix & Compress the SI Joint with One Implant
The Liberty SI™ Fusion System is intended for sacroiliac (SI) joint fusion for conditions including SI joint disruptions and degenerative sacroiliitis. The procedure involves the lateral insertion of 1 or 2 titanium implants transfixing across the ilium and sacrum designed to apply a compressive force to stabilize and fuse the SI Joint. Liberty SI™ is single use and provided sterile.
Main Causes of SI Joint Dysfunction
- Previous Spine Surgery: Up to 75% of patients undergoing lumbar fusion will develop SI joint degeneration within 5 years.*
- Pregnancy: Hormone Relaxin can lead to hypermobility of SI joint*
- Trauma: Trauma can cause disruption to SI joint which leads to chronic pain
- Obesity: Obesity can cause excessive load to the SI joint leading to dysfunction*
Common SI Joint Complaints
- Lower back pain below L5
- Struggle with sudden movement, such as getting out of car
- Pain going from sitting to standing
- Difficulty with sleeping or pro-longed periods of rest
- Pain from prior lumbar fusion surgery or osteoarthrosis
- Feeling of instability in lower extremities

Features & Benefits
- Specifically designed to avoid the most common complication in SI fusion procedures, foraminal impingement
- Available in multiple diameters & length offerings, composed of Titanium alloy with partial hydroxyapatite coating
- Only Lateral SI System on the market that engages the cortical walls of the ilium and sacrum for true joint compression
- Bone decortication during procedural steps helps promote joint fusion
- Implant fixation, compression and fusion may reduce hypermobility of the SI Joint*
- Single lateral surgical approach used with 1 implant (2nd implant optional) may reduce risk of Superior Gluteal Artery injury compared to multiple implant systems

Sacroiliac Joint Imaging Analysis*
- 60 SI Joints evaluated
- Mean distance from sacral wall to S1 Foramen = 22.76mm
- Shortest distance from sacral wall to S1 foramen = 15.65mm
- Distance Liberty SI implant need to cross sacral wall to properly deploy wings = ~12mm
*Anatomic Evaluation of SI Joint Dimensions: An Imaging Series Study: Latif, Lam, Janssen, Wharton, Sayed, Beall, Deer
Research & Data
- It is estimated that SI joint dysfunction is the underlying etiology for 15 to 30% of patients suffering from chronic low-back pain*
- Randomized clinical trials support sacroiliac arthrodesis for treating SI joint dysfunction in carefully selected patients who previously failed conservative measures*
- SI Joint arthrodesis has been shown to be an effective way of reducing pain, increasing* quality of life and reducing opioid use
- Patients undergoing minimally invasive surgery report better pain relief compared with those receiving open surgery at 12 months postoperatively*
